Re: [OT] Showers

Stuart

I have come across this type of thing before.

In effect, the cylinder allows you to utilise mains pressure for your
shower
but extracts the heat from the stored hot water in the cylinder via an
additional finned coil.Normally, the cylinder or calorifier will be of a
normal vented design.

Quite why it isn't working is a bit of a mystery though!

Some thoughts . . . .

Has this suddenly happened? Have you changed the shower valve or head? -
This could cause a change in volume flow through the reheat coil.
Is water discharging from the vent pipe in the loft? - If this is
happening,
you may have a split in the reheat tube allowing the cold mains to overfill
the calorifier
Is the calorifier full of hot wate? - It will need to be to get max heating
to the reheat coil.
Is it a slow degredation in performance? - Could be scaled up?

That's all I can think of now.

As for fixes, if the reahet coil is split, you'll need to change the
cylinder - You could then use an essex or sussex flange to supply the hot
water to the shower, although you'll probably need to change the cold
supply
to the shower too as I bet it's mains fed as well and the new hot feed will
be 'gravity'. Of course, if the cylinder and feed tank is at low level
rather than in the loft (it is, after all, the future _flat_ ;-)), you may
need to think about pumps.

Finally, I did come across one supplier of these units but can't find them
right now. The cost of the additional coil was about GBP 85 over and above
the cost of the cylinder.

HTH

Regards

Neil
