thanks for the suggestions Steve

having been caught out with voltage settings before, I checked the 240/110v
setting before I fitted it.

I like the PSU fan suggestion though - never considered that.  I've checked
the mobo manual and can't see anything though - it has CPU temperature
shutdown but nothing to suggest PSU fan checks.

Although the PSU is called 'fanless' it does actually have a fan that is
controlled by a switch and you can have it in off, full on or 'temp
controlled on' mode.  I've  tried it in all three now - no difference.

Shooting from the hip I would try:

Check the input mains voltage is set to 240v
Make sure your mobo does not expect to get an RPM from the PSU fan(if it
is fan-less I assume this will be zero; one of my mobos shuts down if it
gets a zero value from the CPU fan...long shot but might be worth
looking into)
