Re: Advice on Plasma

Sean,

If I had one piece of advice, it would be to take your parents to a decent
hifi shop and see whether they could actually see / hear the difference.

One of the problems with growing older is that while "hearing for
comprehension" still works for most people into their 60s or 70s,
frequency
range rolls off as early as the late 40s. This is more prevalent in men
than
women, so it may well be that your mum can hear the "home cinema
experience"
but your dad can't.

As for screen quality, plasma / LCD is the way of the future, but I've
still
to see anything that can compare to a _good_ CRT. The trouble is, good,
big,
CRTs are very bulky indeed. Plasma isn't winning on quality, it's winning
convenience.

If you can find a local stockist, have a look at the Loewe CRTs. Much
better
quality than the normal raft of Sonys etc.... however you will need to find
a specialist to stock them and bother to set them up properly and feed them
with a decent source. I've been phenomenally unimpressed by John Lewis'
ability to show them off.

M.
