It's curtains for voice recognition, says survey

Curtains, drapes, blinds, hangings, shades, valances, jalousies -=20
call them what you will, but consumers see them as a key application=20
for voice recognition technology, according to the latest survey to=20
emerge out the silly season.=20

Yes, some 44 per cent of web users surveyed on behalf of Intervoice,=20
a developer of voice control technologies, want to use such systems=20
to control their curtains.=20

So says a release the company put out yesterday. The survey's key=20
finding is that 49 per cent of respondents want to browse the web=20
using voice control, but it's sunny, hot and frankly the curtains=20
statistic impressed us more.=20

Right behind drawing the curtains, respondents said they most wanted=20
to use voice control for security applications (43 per cent) and to=20
tell their car to turn the aircon on (33 per cent).=20

"Voice is the most natural medium in the world," says Simon
Edwards=20
of Intervoice, sensibly. Then spoils it all by announcing to the=20
world, that the survey's respondents think that teleporting, water-
fuelled cars, household robots and talking computers will be common=20
in the next 20 years. =AE
