And on further thought, no. at least not for xPL:

The gateway apps for TiVo, Slimp3 and Rio all started as PC applications,
converting the xPL data into a more native format, and sending on to the
device.

TiVo is now a native application, which runs on the TiVo and displays the
message directly, The Rio has xPL code built into a firmware image, so
again, no PC is involved, and Slimp3 is under development. At present, the
xPL gateway is built into the Slimp3 server software (which runs on a PC)
again, it may end up in the firmware of the actual players.

As I said: PC platforms allow fast, easy development, so they always come
first.
