I still have the schematics for the two PCB's needed so no problem making
a new one.

If we cannot find any more receivers I am sure there are others that can
be persuaded to do the job.

It would be a very good module to be your first dip in the electronics
waters.

Ian,

Yup, it was the IR module that Nigel said was discontinued by Maplin,
quoting from http://www.geocities.com/nigelorr/ir_extend.html
"This system was prototyped using the Temic TSOP 1838 module, then
available from Maplin in the UK, which has now been discontinued."

To be fair to Nigel he did go on to say Keith may be able to source some.
Are these IR modules "universal" ?

I haven't got much electronics experience so was looking for a simple
project to start with - would this be a good one to build ? Graham
mentioned you'd done a PCB for this circuit, is that still available, if I
can source the IR module ?
