If you want to build your own AM12 then look here.

Won't be cheaper than buying since you will need a case etc, but for making
a special interface box this is an ideal start. You even get the source
code
for the PIC from the website.

As for the CM12, I have not seen anything on this. To be honest, the best
thing for this part is to buy a proper one and build the other parts
yourself.
