If it's a plasma - some have a serial port that may respond to a query -
mine does :-)

I believe that zantech (or crestron or amx) do something like this, I
believe that it sits between the electric plug and the wall outlet and
detects the current draw.

I would have thought that one of the electrical guys on the group could
knock something up
