I don't know what a DCD controller is, but does it have a standalone
thermostat?

If so, all you need to do is wire a normally open relay in parallel
with the thermostat contacts (which close when the temperature drops
to the point that the heating should be on). IME most thermostats
have a handy little wiring diagram inside to show what goes where.
Choose a 12V relay with mains contacts and you shouldn't go far
wrong - I used the one from the comfort website, and mounted it in a
DIN rail box.
Then set the thermostat to 0'c/min temp and the relay has exclusive
control. If it all goes horribly wrong, reverting to original control
is just a question of disconnecting the low voltage wiring to the
relay coil and setting the thermostat back to something sensible.
