There is an option in your Samba config file that allows/disallows root access
via smb. Have a look at the Samba config file and compare the sections that
share.

I dont have Samba installed back on my server yet, but a quick look at the
Samba documents will show what it is. It may be the case that you have to
explicitly grant root access rather than assume it is granted by default.
