I am considering buying TiVo.
However, I discovered Showshifter recently. Now I would like to compare those two products:
- Tivo is all in single package
- If I install ShowShifter on PC and have TV tuner card and VGA with TV out card, then it should be similar like TiVo.
I already have DigiGuide subscription and ShowShifter can record directly from DigiGuide, so I have the same functionality like TiVo.
It seems that ShowShifter supports all the "TiVo" features like live program pause etc...
Again, because it's Windows machine, HDD upgrade, ethernet connection etc is all much easier to implement. All that breaks TiVo's warranty so there's no advantage buying TiVo for that.
So, my only concern there is: Picture quality.
Because RF signal there comes in TV tuner card, is processed by PC, and is converted to video signal I wonder if this is watchable.
Showshifter says that it's for watching TV on your PC, but I don't really want to watch it on the PC, I want to watch it on TV.
My experience with any VGA to PAL converters was very disappointing.
Does anyone use ShowShifter and watches it on TV?
What's the picture quality?
Nik
