Ken,

I know what you're saying mate - flexibility is v.important.  I
certainly would _prefer_ to have access to everything all of the time,
but to be honest, even with a 300 disc CD changer, I find myself
returning to the same albums all the time so there is a lot of wastage -
not to mention all the albums not in the changer because there's no
room.
Some stuff I've outgrown as it were, others, I just am never in the mood
for anymore but still, I don't think the 30,000 limit will be a problem
(maybe because I'm younger than you???!!!!)

In terms of mucking around with lists of songs, I wasn't suggesting that
you would be faffing around every few days/weeks - which simply wouldn't
do!
More that for example, I have musical taste and SWMBO does not and I
prefer a shower where SWMBO prefers a bath, so a bathroom AT which
accesses only SWMBO's music would be fine here, and not something that
would need fiddling with on a regular basis.

Not ideal, but these things rarely are :(
What we really need is:
The AT controls & form factor (bigger than the Simp3, but no wall wart &
it does have optical out)
The limitless capacity of the Simp3
The display of the Simp3
The lack of server software of the AT
The price of the Rio
The audio format support of the AT
The open sourceness of the Simp3
The tech support form turtlebeach
And of course a streaming video version :)

Ain't gonna happen, but we all have to compromise somewhere:
Rio - dodgy controls, dodgy display, looks(!)
AT - 30,000 limit, price, size (maybe)
SiMP3 - no (hard) controls, server software, format support(?)

Not having heard it, but based on website blurb, I think it'd be a tough
call between the AT and the SiMP3, but am now headed down a certain road
so am sticking with it :-)

Tony
PS - wanna hold off on your AT purchase then?
PPS - Yes - More choice is a definite plus, (though as an X10 head you
should be used to little or no choice!), and can only increase the
chances of getting something that is right for you
PPPS - see MH's comment later - maybe Rio + ext. amp is the way to go
for you to get over the capacity problem?
