Just had a measure:-
P700, 128 meg with Voodo graphics card and USB
TV
jobbie, probably a bit more than you would have for say a House Control
system.
On boot up with HD activity 560mA
At idle after boot 504mA
At idle with monitor off 252mA
For most of its running systems for server or
house
control will be doing nothing so using the 252mA gives us 60.5W or 530 Kwh
per
year.
Using Phils 5.17p per unit thats £27.40 per
year.
Not so bad after all if my maths are
correct.

£120 a year
sounds a bit high and seems to have been worked out just on the maximum
rating of most PSUs - for example:
We pay 5.17p/unit which would
mean
that a PC over a year uses 2321kw. That works out at 6.5Kw/day or
260w/hr
which is the full rating for most PSUs.
Does anyone know what the
actual draw of a typical PC is once powered up and running? I would have
thought less than 100w.
