My bathroom speakers are on CAT5 as well, but they are only rated at 6
watts
and probably never driven above 1 or 2 watts. Dont worry :-)
Just dont try driving a 400W bass speaker through it!

Keith, I have got at least one speaker in my house connected by CAT5 cable
-
one of my announcement speakers in the master bedroom. As I had the
foresight to make sure I got loads of cat5 cables in the wall when the
downstairs hall was replastered, I happened to have loads of cat5's coiled
up under the bedroom floor, just waiting to be used... So when I wanted to
place an announcement speaker there, I pulled one cat5 out of the bundle,
(wished I'd thought to label them all!), twisted up the 8 cores into 2x4
cores, and put a speaker on it.
It's been like that for about 6 months, with no problems whatsoever...
But then it does only ever carry TTS announcements from Homeseer, and there
are only a dozen or so of them each day...
