That's OK if they're all a similar length, but I usually look in to the
cupboard and get met by a mass of coloured-banded cat-5's so it's handier
to grab the wide bands that are the right colour without seeing whether
they are the first or last band on the cable
It's very much an 'each to their own' situation, where everyone who does it
regularly has a method that works best for them. I recall one of the US HA
sites who practically had a complete wiring schematic on a heatshrunk label
at each end of each wire, which seemed a bit OTT... from_node_name,
to_node_name, routed_via, cable_number, outlet_number, installation_date,
wire_type, date_of_birth, favourite_colour, happiest_childhood_moment...
Personally, I keep an HA notebook, and when a section is 'complete',
word-process it and print off a few copies. One to go in a file, one for
the wiring box etc. Not many bits are 'complete' yet however...
