Remember that the box that NTL install on your wall isn't anything
inteligent ... at its most complex it is simply a set of filters.
Let NTL cable up to the house and then use your own cabling internally ...
basically they just train their guys on a specific set of situations and
anything outside that doesn't exist. Try asking them about cablemodems
under
Linux ... of course you'd expect them to not know that but try asking them
about using their email service with Win2k or Win ME - hell, they even told
me that the reason I couldn't get service on evening was that I was using
Outlook 2000 and that their service was only compatible with Outlook
Express!

Just another point of view- although the bidirectional thing could be
rubbish (it probably is, but it is possible that the uplink is
marginal in some spec of the cable which one co-ax might meet and
another fail on**), do they have to fit connectors to it? Co-ax
connectors are specific to cable size, so if they carry crimps for
RG6 they could well not work reliably on CT100.
I don't know the spec of either cable well, so it's possible that
neither of these are the reason, but don't dismiss it entirely yet!

** While _wire_ is bidirectional, the line drivers in the box in
your
house are probably designed for low price, not specifically for their
ability to drive a range of different cables...
