Browsing through a borrowed PCPro, there's a review about
http://www.easysat.net
This is basically a satellite link to the internet, and may be of interest
to those without cable. The summary from the article is that it costs
=A350=
a
month subscription, and you need to buy a decoder card for the PC from
Adaptec (sounded like =A3100 to =A3300), plus a sat dish (it will coexist
o=
n an
existing Sky dish). Download speed is a peak of 25kps, with a real world
average of 15-20kps.

The downside is you need to maintain a dial-up connection via modem or ISDN
for it to work - it wasn't clear whether you could use any free ISP or had
to use Easysat, but I suspect you have to go through EasySat.

A final plus point that the review didn't provide more details on was that
the decoder card can be specified with an MPEG2 decoder - it wasn't clear
whether this decodes to a nice MPEG2 stream to record on your harddisk 8-),
or to provide a video output.

The article also pointed out that if you need to do plenty of uploading to
the net, and you already have ISDN, you're probably better off sticking
wit=
h
ISDN and bonding channels as required, especially if that works with free
providers?

HTH

Ray.
