SCART Socket Question

I am a lurker from the US. Not a audio/video techie and am not familiar
with
a SCART socket.

I am very interested in a future purchase of Kat5 modules and possibly the
future switch to distribute Cable/Cameras/Audio in my home. I have never
heard of a SCART socket.

Could someone explain further on SCART socket and how I would connect an S
video output and the audio of my A/V equipment to a Scart socket. Are there
adapters for a SCART?
