That is understandable. A fair number of
people dislike any kind of automatically
renewable contract. The problem is that in
the alarm industry, the automatic renewal
clause is part of almost every monitoring
contract. I'm not saying that's good -- only
that it is common practice.
Quite a few of my DIY customers opt to
install their own alarm systems precisely
because they don't want to pay a recurring
monthly fee. Most alarm companies won't
install a system without a monitoring contract.
As to the "short window" of cancellation, I
suspect there's a misunderstanding here.
A 30-day cancellation clause does not mean
that you have to cancel *within* 30 days of
expiration of the original term. It means you
must cancel *before* 30 days from the end
of the agreement. Thus a 60-day or 90-day
requirement is actually more burdensome
for customers as they are less likely to
cancel in time than with a 30-day clause.
