Starting a Home-Based Business With a Zero Budget
A home-based business offers the best of all possible worlds:
flexibility, profitability and business ownership. When done
strategically, success is inevitable. One of the greatest advantages
of a home-based business is that one can start it with zero
investment. For the individual who is unemployed, a stay-at-home
parent, in massive debt, or divorced, this is wonderful news.
You might be asking "How is this even possible?" The answer is simple:
start small and think big.
Below is a step-by-step overview of what it means to start a business
with zero investment. Before you get started with this business model,
keep three things in mind:
#1- Starting any business (and especially 'this way') requires a
massive commitment of time during the first three to six months of
business (60 hours+). If you are not willing to invest that kind of
time, this business model is not for you.
#2- For the first 60-90 days of this model, 95% of your business will
be Do-It-Yourself (DIY) unless you can barter or exchange services
with experts in areas your business requires.
#3- Get rid of any idea that business credibility has to "look" a
certain way. Your passion, persistence, experience and caring will
sell your business well before any professional business card or
website will.
OK, let's get started.
Step 1: Decide what your business produces, sells or makes and make
sure that it's something you love, have experience in, a natural gift
for and have access to people who would want to buy it.
Step 2: Name your business and decide on a price for your products/
services.
Step 3: Use a free email service (ex: Google) to develop a corporate
email address.
Step 4: Create a blog (FREE) where you will market and sell your
product online. Sign up for Google Analytics so you can track web
traffic.
Step 5: Open a free PayPal account and post a PayPal button onto your
account so you can readily accept payments.
Step 6: Using your home computer and printer, create flyers about your
product and/or business.
Step 7: Start participating in online discussion and creating an
online presence for your business through Facebook, Twitter, and
discussion boards.
Step 8: Sign up for Constant Contact or another email provider that
gives a 60 day free trial and put up an email opt-in list on your
blog.
Step 9: Start holding tele-seminars using free teleconferencing
software like TalkShoe or WhistleTree and/or host a weekly radio show
on BlogTalk Radio.
Step 10: Go to events, join clubs, volunteer and get out into your
community and tell anyone and everyone about what you do.
Step 11: Love what you do, do what you love and have confidence that
there are many, many clients for your products and/or services.
That's it. If you feel like you need more information on any of the
steps above, go to a bookstore and read anything and everything you
can on starting a business.
