That's methanol that causes vision loss. It is the single carbon alcohol. It
is made from destructive distillation of cellulose or from natural gas and
high temperatures and pressures with catalysts (for windshield washer
solvent with anti freeze properties). Ethanol (white lightning) is made from
fermentation. Mostly the first steps in the Citric Acid Cycle when yeast
makes (ethyl) alcohol. When properly filtered using charcoal it is ridded of
fusil oils (alcohols with more than two carbon atoms) you can get blind
drunk and you won't even get a hang over.
