There may be nothing wrong with the system, its possible your phones go dead
because the alarm panel is trying to communicate with a central station, its
normal for the panel to seize the phone lines when communicating (or
attempting to communicate) with a central station. If your alarm company
went tits up then their central station receiver line may have been
disconnected. Your alarm will normally attempt to communicate about 8 times
before giving up and reconnecting your phone line. If you leave the system
plugged in for 15 minutes or so, then the phones may start working again.
