Dam is the apparently operative word behind recent price increases in copper
wire. More specifically, the Three Gorges Dam. According to MSN, "World
copper prices have risen more than 70 percent this year, supported by
expectations of continued strong demand from China, where consumption of the
metal is forecast to rise 14.5 percent this year. The price was about 2.5
times of the price of aluminum, which has risen 21 percent this year." The
Chinese government even allowed contractors to switch from copper to
aluminum for the TGD project.
