In the long run it may be simpler to pay the original installing company to
come out and reprogram it for you.  I typically charge $75 to come out and
reprogram the master user code, supply a new printout of the user's manual
and go over the operation of the system with somebody who buys a house with
an alarm I installed.  If they sign up for monitoring (one year minimum) I
don't charge them for the aformentioned services.  In some areas it may run
as much as $95 for such a service cal, but...  I think its a lot easier than
screwing around with the system and maybe messing it up.  Of course you are
the nest judge of what is best for yourself.
