Why?? Do you suspect they're not working properly?? Get yourself some FM
listed smoke detector tester. Follow the instructions for use on the can.
If the smokes respond appropriately they're OK. Get out your vacuum
cleaner. Attach the soft bristle furniture brush to the end and vacuum
around the vents. Do this once every six months.

These are system smokes. Supervised by the Ademco panel. They're not smoke
alarms so I don't think NFPA's recommendation for replacement applies.
