The fact the electronics are contained with in the metal can the chances of
a fire breaking out were slim as oxegen would have depleted and fire put it
self out. .
how ever i would contact local ahj and ask them to investigate the unit for
possible manufatuers defect and i would notify dsc and consumer product
safety commision.
wht you described should not have happened if proper fuses etc were in
place.
