Well, if we're going to get technical, the expression "Trier of Fact" can
refer either to the judge or the jury. Together with lawyers and a record
keeper, these form the court. In a jury trial the jury determines the
facts; the judge the law. In a bench trial the judge is both the trier of
fact and of law.
Judges sometimes use 'court' to refer to themselves in the third person, as
in 'the court has read the briefs.'
