One more thing - you shouldn't need to enable port forwarding on your
router. The usual setup is for the router to sit between the outside
world and your network, and port forwarding is just there to allow
data sent from the outside to be passed on to a specific machine on
the network. Routers also block broadcast messages from being sent
outside your network, so xPL wouldn't work anyway.
The xAP guys have a xAP router to deal with this - I've been thinking
of doing an xPL version - both to tunnel xPL messages over an SSH
connection and to bridge subnets on a local network.
BTW, has anyone ever tried xPL over a VPN? Are there issues with the
filtering of broadcast packets, or does it just work the same as if
the remote machine is on the local network?
