using xpl and xplhal manager with usb controllers

Is it possible to use xpl and xplhal with usb connected controllers
such as the 1132CU POWERLINC CONTROLLER and the new insteon controller?
If so, how and with what software? I assume that the xPL-to-CM12
gateway service will not work since it is looking for a serial
connection and not a usb connection.
