Actually, back at the time, I had posted a sample XML spec.  it wasn't
meant
to be final and there are definitely some areas for discussion.  You can
take a look at it here:

The idea is to re-use some concepts in the existing vendor plugin file. 
The
hope was that a future extension of the vendor plugin file would allow (but
not require) that a vendor device could just specify a common schema it
supports and that would cut down on the device specific plugin stuff (which
is why there is some common terminology and idioms from the vendor plugin
file).
