Re: Re: insteon/UPB

Howdy,

X10 ?

Insteon is generally faster than X10 -- Insteon is a different protocol
than
X10 carried over RF and powerline. Many (most right now) Insteon devices
are also X10 devices, so you can merge them into an existing network.

It's an OK solution and one I feel is probably good for folks with a large
and stable X10 install that are looking to add some features. But I feel
the switches overall are a bit less programmable/powerful than UPB
equivalents.

If you're starting out from scratch, UPB seems like the best solution -- no
RF (which can suffer from interference, though they do have multi-channel
support) and easier programming (I've reprogrammed my UPB switches half a
dozen times already to take advantage of what the other folks in the house
are asking for -- all from my PC). If you're in the middle of an existing
install of X10, it's probably worth getting an Insteon eval kit and a UPB
eval kit to see which better fits your needs.
