Certainly did help. (Although I had to google for "vbs hello
world" to see any output!)

I got an error code and hence found out that the "Catastrophic
failure" message was coming
from the MyODBC driver itself. It turns out this is a bug in the latest
version of the
driver (3.51.10.2) for which a patch was released recently.
