Sorry to hear that Tom. I setup a very simple security system which took
picture highres snapshots every couple of seconds and had them uploaded to
a
remote FTP account. I use http://www.webcam32.com/ It doesn't
really make
sense to set up a security cam if the person vandalizing also takes the box
with the security recordings.
I have 3 cams. A B/W one at the front of the house with an IR cannon
lighting up my entire street at night (bought them from x-10.com), 1 for
the
hallway to my computer room, and one in my computer room.
PS: They have some pretty slick cams out now that have built-in
webservers,
wireless, sound, and built-in pan/tilt/zoom controls.

Subject: [ukha_xpl] xPL & video capturing
Hi people,
Today I was victim of vandalism around the house (I live in a rather
remote but easily accessible area. Some young trees were destroyed).
Makes my blood boil... Long time ago I already had the idea to
capture video from a camera hanging near to the edge of the roof. The
camera was installed, I have a capture card but never really got it
all configured correctly or running like I would like. The camera is
old (and NTSC...), the capture card a Hauppage WinTV so also not
really made for that.
What I would like to have is a system that can be controlled via xPL
to start capturing video. The motion detectors outside the house send
out xPL packets already.
I really need some advice to achieve this. There probably exist
packages on the market that do this, but are these xPL-able, generate
standard viewable video, able to run as a service, ... ? My
preference would go to some freeware c# component that I can play with
and add an xPL front for. :-)
Thanks
Tom
