RE: Hardware BSC mapper

Hi,

I purchased the EM202 with its dev kit which is a small board to give psu
a=
nd serial. If I've remembered correctly the em202 module worked out around
=
=A335.00 and I think the dev kit was about =A345/=A350 including the
em202.=
There are a few uk distributors and the price does vary between them. I ha=
ve more info at work.

They have plenty of buffer you can allocate to the various streams. I
would=
say it could do the xap stuff. My 1st test was just capturing all my xap p=
ackets and sending them out serial with a cr/lf attached. It only took a
fe=
w lines of code and it all worked fine. I then had to get on with what I
pu=
rchased it for. I have it with a 57600 serial port sending and receiving
co=
mmands and it also acts as a web client and sends and receives http msg's.
=
Some of the web pages it fetches back are quite a few k in length and it
wo=
rks fine as does the serial comms.

I wish I had more time to try it, I do have an xap project awaiting this
bu=
t time does not permit at the minute!

Hi Ian,

Interesting - a bit like a souped up Lantronix part. Couple of=20
questions - what approx is the price ? - and secondly with regard to the=20
programming language, do you think it's powerful and fast enough to rip=20
apart a xAP packet - apply some logic to its content and get it sent=20
back out on the Ethernet port whilst simultaneously servicing a serial=20
port at say 19200 (which is not too critical a source ie could use=20
XON/XOFF. The Ethernet handler would have to have fairly large buffers=20
and operate at an acceptable speed - 10's of packets per second for a=20
busy xAP network.

The nicer thing about this is that it is available cased and with an=20
inbuilt psu...
