ahh, sry  forgot to mention. I did change the use lib line to absolute
paths as in

use lib '/usr/local/zmxap/lib', '/usr/local/zmxap/lib/site';

and also the path to the config file in sub init {}
my $conf_file = "/usr/local/zmxap/zmxap.conf";


I wonder if I missed another reference somewhere
