There was a logic to doing it that way.

The reasoning was that in the left-hand panel, it was acceptable to
click on a "node" rather than a "leaf" (ie - to wild
card the trigger in
a match), wheras in the right-hand panel, you could only trigger a
particular output rather than wildcarding an output group - thus
presenting in a way that made it impossible to click on anything other
than an end-point.

That having been said, I'll ask Mary whether it's straightforward to
make the "toggle" change you suggest, and whether we can, in the
right-hand panel force a click on a node to expand-collapse rather than
select.
