Mark,

does one *need* certification to install and configure KNX? My home did
not care that I did not have any certification, in case that is of
importance :)

If you want a short overview what is needed as a base for KNX, checkout
the KNX/EIB LinuxMCE wiki page. It details the basics fairly simple (at
least I hope it does). http://wiki.linuxmce.org/index.php/EIB/KNX_Basics

The ETS software can be downloaded from the KNX web page free of charge
for small projects.

If you have any specific questions, feel free to ask.
