RE: GU10 Energy efficient replacements

Hi Kevin,

I went through trying to find an alternative to halogen gu10's about 4
months ago.

I tried the 4 watt (4 leds) gu10's but found them to directional with a
narrow beam that makes the room have bright and dim areas.

I settled on 4 watt (21x 5050 SMD leds) which have a good light output only
slightly less than normal gu10's with a wide beam pattern. Warm white is
similar colour to normal gu10 bulbs.

It looks like they have brought out 5 and 6 watt versions now which might
be
worth considering as well.

All very pricey bulbs though at 3-4 times the price of reasonable halogen
gu10 bulbs. Off the top of my head I think I calculated that it would take
about 12-18months to break even on the bulbs when using them for 2-3 hours
a
day compared to halogens.

Adrian.

P.S. no affliation with brightlightz, just a happy previous customer when
they swapped the initial set for the second set.

Subject: [ukha_d] GU10 Energy efficient replacements

Having nearly had a fit at the size of our leccy bill again I'm looking for
energy efficient replacements for our 50W GU10 halogen lights - of which we
have a lot :-(

Does anyone have any personal recommendations? I'm finding the choice a bit
overwhelming so I'd like to try out a couple of different types (e.g. LED
or
CFL)to see which work for us. Dimming would be nice but it's not required
for most of our rooms. They're for recessed fittings so must be the same
physical size as a normal GU10.

Cheers
Kevin W.
