RE: Replace a TIVO with ?
My vote goes to getting a reconditioned Topfield PVR ;the wife's
bedroom PV=
R was =A350 from eBay although they seem to be a bit dearer atm

.. and then stick the "MyStuff" UI on it.

Fantastic PVR with many features of the Tivo.
The main thing that lets it down is the standard style remote that has its
=
buttons remapped to various functions (by MyStuff) so it can be a bit
diffi=
cult remembering all the key press combinations. It's the closest I've
come=
to standalone TiVo replacement so far.
Another option is to run GBPvr on your windows server and then simply
playb=
ack via XBMC, which is what I do in the main living room. Problem with
this=
is that scheduling and guide viewing has to be done via a webpage so requi=
res the use of the laptop.

I quite like my Humax Freesat box, mostly we use Sky but the Humax gives
good picture quality and is reliable.
The only thing that annoys me is the cursor keys are a little sluggish both
with the original remote and the pronto and the fact it does not have
discrete power on and off commands. You can get around this by sending 000
to the box and it will turn on and just use its auto switch off function.

With TIVo on borrowed time, I need to find an alternative that 'just works'
with a good WAF.
I'm currently leaning toward a Humax Freesat PVR. With a longer term view
t=
o
implement mythtv backend and XBMC front ends.
Anyone have good / bad things to say about Humax, or able to offer
alternatives ?
Cheers
Stuart
