RE: 1/2" or 15mm

I can=E2=80=99t see how PTFE tape will work. This is normally for
threaded =
joints and tapers ones at that. With an olive type seal, putting tape on
th=
e threads serves no purpose whatsoever as fluid or gas will leak past the
p=
oint on the nut that surrounds the pipe.
=20
If the olive fitting is a reasonable snug fit around the pipe, be it 15mm
o=
r =C2=BD then it will deform enough to seal the pipe. If it is very sloppy
=
then it will most likely fail.
=20
The original poster should obtain some 15mm olives and see how they fit
ove=
r the pipe, if the are able to get access at this time.

=20=20
As already mentioned the 1/2" dimension defines the outside
diameter=20
which may be relevant for manufacturers of pipe fittings but does not=20
specify what might be the flow characteristics hence the change to the=20
15mm internal specification which is about what one used to see with a=20
1/2" pipe anyway..

However pipe manufacture is not precision engineering, some pipes will=20
be thicker than others so the external dimensions will vary which is why=20
pipe olives are designed to deform to fit the pipe. In short 1/2"
pipe=20
is essentially the same as 15mm and any dimensional variation should be=20
absorbed by the olive, if it isn't then enter PTFE tape . . . .
