The issue of space in the enclosure got me thinking...

It may be possible (cable lengths depending etc) to mount the connection

ocks on the rear face of the front cover ?

You'd have to carefully loom the cables from front to rear, and have some

ind of tether so you couldn't just yank the cover clean off - but it could

be an alternative to finding more space in the enclosure.
