RE: Humax 9150T

I've replaced my TiVo with the Foxsat-HDR, too.

I have to agree about the GUI. It's OK, but much clumsier than TiVo. My 7
year old could navigate her way around the TiVo without any problems but
that's certainly not the case with this, at the moment.

Annoyingly, Humax builds TiVo-based boxes for the US market :-( Can you
imagine one of these puppies with the TiVo UI?

Other good points:
Automatic rescheduling of recording start/end based on transmitted
metadata,
so you mostly don't need padding. Not every channel broadcasts the data,
but
the BBC does and it works very well indeed.

Bad points:
Why no discrete on/off. Grr.

I've not had any problems with the box locking up and mines in a pretty
packed glass-fronted cabinet.

Subject: RE: [ukha_d] Humax 9150T

I have the Foxsat-HDR (Freesat HD + PVR)
http://www.humaxdigital.com/freesat/specifications_FOXSAT-HDR.asp
or
http://tinyurl.com/5hs3p5 which has
replaced my beloved Tivo. It really
doesn't match the Tivo usability in any way but I am getting more used
to it (SWMBO is currently ignoring it!). The GUI is "not that
bad",
selecting programs to record is very usable and I like the way to tells
you if the broadcast is also available in HD and gives you the option to
record that instead.

Good points:

Incredible picture quality, even on SD channels.
I love BBC HD (Did you see Swarm on BBC last week? Awesome!)
It puts season pass recording into folders thus grouping your programs
together.
Dual tuners

Bad points:

Needs plenty of airspace. Will lock up if you pack it tightly in your
rack!
Uses the same IR codes as the Foxsat HD box (Non PVR version)
ITV's implementation of HD is stupid (you have to press the red button
and it switches to a HD broadcast) - But that's not Humax's fault.

Overall the GUI does what it needs to do but its just not as refined as
Tivo (will anything ever be?). In my view its the best thing I've found
to match Tivo.

If Tivo comes back to the UK then it might end up on ebay! :-)
