RE: New Xtreme X38HD Multimedia Player

When I last used MythTV (over a year ago) there was talk of doing this but
it wasn't actually implemented.
I liked MythTV apart from the fact that being Linux based (I used the
KnoppMyth download) it meant that I effectively had a whole machine
dedicated to it, since I'm not a Unix bod. With GBPVR I can have it running
in the background of a windows PC that I'm using for other things as well.

Yes, GBPVR is the same, as a user you don't have any indication of how many
tuners there are etc, you just pick the programs and it schedules them for
recording or tells you there's a conflict. So easy even SWMBO could use it
:)

That's good.. GBPVR leaves them as .ts files, I guess it must be possible
to transcode to .mpg or something.
Does MythTV actually create the Mpeg as it records or convert it afterwards
?

I have this kind of setup in MythTV, I have 2 dual tuner cards. This allows
me to record whatever I want off 4 mux's

The good bit about mythtv is that it is integrated, so you just record
whatever you want and it works out which mux each channel is on and saves
each program as a separate mpeg as usual.

The most I have recorded is 8 programs at the same time, and that was using
about 15% cpu and 10% ram on my dualcore, 2gig ram server.

Cheers, Des.
