I have 2 linux servers running 24/7 so that's not an issue for me! A bigger
issue is the lack of linux suppport for some dual tuner cards. Another good
solution is Sage TV which has both Linux and Windows versions. Check out
their HD extender(STX-HD100), nice bit of kit at a nice price.

It records direct to an mpeg file, you can watch it as it is recording.

There are a few reasons I stick with Mythtv: xbmc support, multirec and
mythweb & upnp.
