Thanks for the responses guys.

It sounds like it's do-able. I'm not sure about using a shelf, but I
guess placing a bar at the back (one 'U' below the intended item)
could act as a rear support.

I've only got 10cm additional space at the back of the rack, so my
choice of server chassis will be limited.... I planning to go for a
low powered Mini-ITX Eden EN motherboard, but I really could do with
4 x front loading SATA drives. I'll check out the Janus and Travla
Travla kit.
