Ian,
I used a wall chaser for all of my cable runs downstairs. It did make a lot
of dust, even with the vacuum connected, but was the right tool for the
job.
My plasterer said he'd never seen chases so neat :-)
An SDS drill and skirting board attachment would be good for getting behind
the coving - I didn't have one and it took ages with a long drill bit. I
wouldn't do with a drill next time...
I've had no problem with plaster coming loose and SWMBO reliably(!) informs
me that I last did the wiring about 5 years ago...
