I went for a Quad 6600 Core 2 proc, 8Gb of Ram, 6 x 500Gb (but could
easily be 6 x 1Gb), running Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
(I started on 7.10, but hit performance problems with VMWare, and
dropped back to Dapper)
I went for straight ext3 on an mdraid Raid 5 volume.
I have the capacity for a total of 8 SATA drives, (7 Tb!) in hot swap
bays... and came in reasonably cheap too!
