RE: Re:In wall touch panel heights to comply with building regs

Well I moved into my new self-build 12 months ago and all my light
switches
are at 1200mm and sockets at 450mm in accordance with the regs even though
most of my lighting is Helvar Digidim therefore all keypads have integral
IR. It does not feel odd at all at these heights, just different to my old
houses. If I had installed any in-wall touchscreens then these would have
been installed at typical adult eye level and I know that there would have
been a need for clarification with my building inspector but having worked
for a high-end CI in my time and having installed lots of
Crestron/AMX/Netstreams touchscreens at eye level I know it would be
perfectly acceptable provided you can demonstrate the compliance with Part
M
(via hand-held IR/RF control or other such mechanism). You can either show
the heights for touchscreens/switches on your building regs submission
along
with notes to clarify Part M compliance or meet your BI to discuss and
agree
the issue on site before you start 2nd fix. I can only see this being an
issue if you simply ignore the regs and the BI then refuses to sign off you
work until it is rectified.

Well, yet another daft regulation that I will totally ignore. I guess that
if
forced to comply, people tend to move the switches and sockets back to more
sensible locations afterwards?

A switch at 1500mm can be reached when sitting on the floor!
