It can use the spare pins, or it can use the 2 pairs that have data on
them.



It however shouldn't be enabling the power till it detects the correct
load,
and even if power is supplied on the data pins, the magnetics in any normal
Ethernet device are unaffected since they lack the centertap on the primary
to extract the power.

It "should" be using the spare pins for power, so as long as your
device is
only connecting to the network, then all should be OK.
