I've had trouble with Samsung 500Gb drives too.

One thing to look out for with the WD greenpower drives is that you can
often get the 5 year warranty ones for almost the same price as the the
3 year drives - worth a little extra, IMO (there must be a reason why
they think they'll last another two years!)
